How to Feel Calmer and Happier || Self-Care || Blogmas #1
Everyone is always rushing somewhere, to do something - answering emails, rushing to run errands, buried in work and this exciting busy life can trigger negative effects like anxiety, appetite issues, depression and insomnia.
I am always interested in learning what people do to take care of themselves, because everyone has little rituals that make them feel human and it's really nice to exchange experience and tips. I often reblog on my personal tumblr different posts on self-care that people share so check that out as well.
Here are some of the things I do to help me feel more human and less anxious.
Avoid technology till you're fully awake
I often find myself reaching for my phone first thing in the morning and I've noticed that it makes me more anxious in the morning. The desire to get everything done before you're fully awake can be very harmful to your day and may lead to your anxiety levels rising. If you are really in a rush to get something done, wake up half an hour early to give yourself time to wake up before you start your day. It definitely makes the world of a difference.
Find a creative outlet
Blogging, taking pictures, editing videos, coloring books are all my creative outlets. Photography calms me as does writing. I love zoning out while I'm editing and I like carrying around a coloring book in my bag when I am at uni just to calm myself down or relax between classes.
Have a gratitude log/journal
Being grateful is an amazing feeling and keeping a journal full of positive energy or just writing one-liners on what you're grateful in a certain day can teach you gratitude and make your day a lot better AND you'll have something to look back on when you feel down.
Have a playlist for every mood
That, i think is a given but music has a great effect on people's moods and even Spotify has a music section called Mood. I have a playlist full of all my favorite songs and then another playlist with just rock music. Lately I've been listening to a lot of Confidence Boost playlist from Spotify and I love falling asleep to the Rain or Ocean sound playlists.
Go on walks
The weather right now is so beautiful that it is a shame if you don't utilize it with walks. You get some fresh air, you can socialize, get in a bit of exercise - what's there not to love about it?!
Pamper yourself
Everyone does different things to pamper themselves and for me it is taking a hot shower, putting on a face mask and watching an episode of some show that I love. It could be drinking a glass of wine, going to a spa or whatever. Do you, boo!
Dance it out
Sometimes anxiety just creeps up on me for no reason that I can work out. One time it was 2.30 am and I found myself struggling for breath while laying in bed. I realized that a panic attack is trying to creep up on me and I got up, picked up my earphones, phone and I started dancing like I was all alone in the world. I love dancing it out. If you're an avid watcher of Grey's anatomy, you'd probably remember Cristina and Meredith's final scene and how they danced it out. It feels great and it soothes and feeds your soul - complete recharge.
